Paul Desmond (1924-1977) is my favourite alto saxophone player. His style was very melodious; "West Coast jazz", cool jazz. He is mostly knows as a member of the Dave Brubeck Quartet, 1951-1967. Take Five was composed by Paul Desmond.
One of my all time favourites is the EP with his composition Wintersong together with Gerry Mulligan - both their improvisations are amazing.
